Fox News Announces Major Line-Up Changes: Will Cain Moves to Primetime
Fox News has confirmed a highly anticipated shake-up in its programming, with a weekend favorite moving to a coveted primetime hosting slot. This announcement follows the departure of longtime business reporter Neil Cavuto, leaving an open spot that viewers were eager to see filled.
Will Cain Takes on Weekday Hosting Duties
Starting January 21, Fox & Friends Weekend host Will Cain will step into a weekday slot with his new show, The Will Cain Show, airing at 4 PM Eastern Time. Cain, who has been a fixture of Fox & Friends Weekend since 2020, expressed his enthusiasm for this new opportunity.
“It’s been an honor to wake up with America these past four years,” Cain said. “Now, I’m looking forward to helping viewers better understand the headlines through thought-provoking content and analysis every weekday afternoon.”
Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott praised Cain’s move, highlighting his experience as a broadcaster and lawyer. “Will Cain brings years of experience to the 4 PM hour, and we look forward to adding his insights to what will no doubt be another historic news cycle ahead this year,” Scott stated.
Cain’s career in media has been extensive. Before joining Fox News, he worked at ESPN, where he hosted The Will Cain Show on radio and frequently appeared on the debate program First Take. A Texas native, Cain studied law at the University of Texas and later founded and sold Quince Media, a publication focused on Latin American culture. He also worked with CNN as a fill-in host before making the transition to conservative news commentary. Cain is married to Kathleen Cain, and they have two sons together.
Charlie Hurt Takes Over Fox & Friends Weekend
With Cain moving to weekdays, his weekend slot will now be filled by Charlie Hurt, a Fox News contributor and opinion editor for The Washington Times. Hurt has been a frequent presence on the network, known for his sharp political commentary.
Additional Line-Up Changes
Fox News is implementing several other scheduling adjustments to enhance its weekend programming:
The Fox Report with Jon Scott will now run for two hours on both Saturdays and Sundays from 3 PM to 5 PM ET.
The Big Weekend Show has been extended to air from 6 PM to 8 PM ET.
Over on Fox Business, The Big Money Show has expanded to a two-hour format, running from 12 PM to 2 PM ET on weekdays.
Dagen McDowell, who currently co-hosts The Bottom Line on Fox Business, will remain with that program in an expanded role.
Honoring Neil Cavuto’s Legacy
These schedule changes come in the wake of Neil Cavuto’s departure after a remarkable 28-year tenure at Fox News. The 68-year-old journalist was one of the network’s most respected anchors, covering financial news and political analysis with his signature depth and professionalism.
Following his departure, Fox News issued a statement recognizing Cavuto’s contributions: “Neil Cavuto’s illustrious career has been a master class in journalism, and we’re extremely proud of his incredible 28-year run with Fox News Media. His programs have defined business news and set the standard for the entire industry.”
Cavuto’s final broadcast was on December 19, leaving behind a legacy that will be difficult to match.
What This Means for Viewers
The changes at Fox News reflect the network’s ongoing evolution as it adapts to shifting audience demands and the fast-paced news landscape. With Will Cain stepping into a primetime slot and Charlie Hurt bringing fresh perspectives to Fox & Friends Weekend, Fox News aims to keep its viewership engaged and informed.
These new additions and schedule shifts promise to bring even more compelling discussions, in-depth analysis, and hard-hitting news coverage to the Fox News audience in 2024 and beyond.
